After Disney acquired 21st Century Fox and closed Fox 2000, Paramount Players acquired a film adaptation featuring Kay. Oyegun was hired to write the script, and Tillman Jr. continued to direct. On October 19, 2020, Vanuri Kahio replaced Tillman Jr.
as director of the film. On 10 June 2021, it was announced that Sana Lathan will make the film’s
debut in place of Kahio. On October 21, 2021, it was announced that newcomer Jamila C. Gray had been cast in the lead role in the film. On November 8, 2021, Method Man, Mike Epps and Da’Vine Joy Randolph were cast in the film.

Bri, a young rapper and the daughter of an underground hip hop legend who died
just before making it big. Her father’s legend makes him a hard act to follow, but between Bri being bullied and watching her mother struggle after losing her job, she pours out her frustration into songs that become big viral hits.
